1. Let the first line of your poem be a word or phrase from a recent conversation between yourself and a stranger.
2. Take a science or math concept and apply it to life, or maybe a smaller phenomenon you noticed. Photosynthesis? Pythagorean Theorem?
3. Write a how-to poem with directions on how to have fun.
4. Write about an "Out of Order" sign on a vending machine.
5. Open a nearby book and read the last sentence. Let it inspire your poem.
6. Write about a line.
7. Describe or imagine yourself as a bug in a bottle. A ladybug, a lightning bug, a grasshopper? Get creative with the symbolism and metaphors.
8. Write about a topic you are passionate about. Is it climate change? Racial justice? Prison reform? Let your voice come out and make a difference through your words.
9. Love lives! Pen a poem about your object of extreme admiration from afar, a significant other (lucky ducks), or lack of one.
10. Debunk a picture perfect movie misrepresentation. Because honestly, who shaves their legs all the time. Are people really just gonna start dancing in the middle of class, with the teacher bopping along? And c'mon, the beach isn't all sunshine and bikinis. Especially when your hair isn't always waving in back of you like Supergirl. Vent about it!
That's what I've got for now, folks. Let me know down in the comments if you found one really helpful, have an idea for a prompt, or just are in need of a lil more inspiration. Now, get poem writing!
